Back from the Midwest

We had a wonderful time in St Louis over the weekend. I very much enjoyed my time worshipping at Memorial PCA and meeting new friends. Sunday evening we spent with the Ellis family at their apartment on campus, we enjoyed some chilli and sharing stories. It was great to get to meet them and we hope that it won’t be too long until we catch up again.

We were staying in the retreat centre attached to Covenant Seminary, it was very comfortable and the rooms were lovely. Our hosts, the Campbells looked after us wonderfully and ferried us all over St Louis. On Monday we went up the arch with Gene, which I was kind of dreading as I’m not that great with heights and it’s much higher than the London Eye. It was great though as the windows are very small and there were no glass floors or anything else that would induce vertigo. The photo below is taken from the arch and shows Busch Stadium, home to the St Louis Cardinals and the Old Courthouse which was the site of the first two trials of the pivotal Dred Scott case in 1847 and 1850. It was also where Virginia Minor’s case for a woman’s right to vote came to trial in the 1870s.
Later we went shopping, David got some fancy shoes at Johnson and Murphy, a new watch, and more books than we could carry from the seminary bookstore. I was delighted to find a world market store which allowed me to buy some Hob Nobs, Digestives, Rich Tea, Tate and Lyle syrup and Birds Custard.

  1. Glad you had such a great time. I was sorry not to be able to spend any of it with you apart from the two minute, “hello!”

That’s a great photo, by the way. And my opinion of the arch? Once is plenty. 🙂

  2. It was great meeting with ya’ll in the STL. So sorry, I didn’t get the chance to hang out. Let me know when you travel this way again. Glad you found the World Market and were able to get goodies.
